A Christmas Message from the founder of The Flying Winemaker, Eddie McDougall
This Christmas, I offer you a gift. Not a tangible one, but a gift of knowledge – the kind that wine brings. It's not about winemaking techniques or food pairings, but rather the connection wine offers to nature and deep cultural traditions.
As a winegrower, especially with the recent release of our 2023 Margaret River Chardonnay, I feel a profound respect for the land and the beautiful relationship between place and wine. While technology and viticulture evolve, the essence of winemaking remains rooted in centuries-old traditions.
There's something miraculous about wine. Just as the Christian faith celebrates the miracle of Jesus turning water into wine, the transformation of grapes into this beloved beverage is a wonder in itself. Like bread, wine holds a sacred place in many cultures, symbolising nourishment and shared experience.
My message to you is simple: wine is meant to be shared. It brings joy to any table, whether that's a Christmas picnic on a Sydney beach or a festive feast in a fancy Hong Kong restaurant. Sharing a bottle with loved ones creates connection and strengthens bonds.
Thank you for enjoying The Flying Winemaker wines this year. Looking ahead, our team is dedicated to crafting wines that offer exceptional value, true varietal expression, and unforgettable taste experiences.
To share wine is to share life. It encourages reflection and slows down time, reminding us to savour precious moments.
Merry Christmas.
